Dear Friend,

Blade, a handsome black wolf, was chained to a post when we first met him in Alaska eight years ago. Along with 28 other wolves and wolfdogs who had been confiscated by the State, their fate was uncertain. As he sat there in the snow, cold and hungry, we looked into his gorgeous dark eyes and knew that he and the others had just found their forever home at the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center (LARC).

At the time of his rescue, Blade was already considered a “senior.” Now, between 15-20 years old (and with a much greyer coat!), he is one of the most elderly canid residents at LARC. Regardless of his age, Blade is still a big flirt amongst the females. He looks like a young pup when he prances in front of them. Still, his one true love is Lavannah, an Arctic wolf with whom he shares his enclosure, and he has a hard time being away from her for any length of time.

About 80% percent of the wolves and wolfdogs at LARC are over the age of eight and 50% percent are over the age of twelve. Due to their age, and the fact that the majority were rescued from cases involving abuse or neglect, many of them require a little extra dental and veterinary care.

Thanks to kind and compassionate supporters like you, these beautiful creatures will never have to suffer again. What’s more, with a thoughtful gift to LARC today, your gift will be DOUBLED to go twice as far!

Last year, Blade was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on top of his head close to his right ear. Our veterinary team removed it and we have been keeping a close eye on it ever since to be ready for whatever possible treatment he might need in the future. In the meantime, Blade spends his days happily lounging and exploring his large enclosure with Lavannah.

As you know, caring for an elderly animal can be quite costly. Medication, surgical procedures, health supplements, specialized food, and comfortable bedding – these are just some of the additional costs that we must factor in for our senior residents. Your generous gift today will ensure that these precious beings live out their golden years in comfort and dignity.

Right now, your gift will have twice as much impact helping elderly wolves and wolfdogs like Blade. Thanks to an incredible gift from an anonymous donor, all gifts made to our Spring Campaign will be matched 100%*!

We are so grateful to have amazing supporters like you, who show us time and time again how much they care about the animals at LARC. We could not do it without you!

With gratitude,
