HERE …..

YOU Named LARC's Newest Resident Fox .... DIEGO!

Thank you, all, for your thoughtful name suggestions. We liked so many of them but the name that came out of the hat was Diego (probably because so many of you sent in that name 😀). After the required quarantine period, Diego (from San Diego) will join LARC's other Red Fox, Loxy, and the two will live out their lives here at the sanctuary where they will be provided great food, enrichment, and tender loving care. Now check out this latest Diego video …..

And Don’t Forget — LARC’s monthly newsletter quiz is quite the hit …. the winner gets a Wolves and Warriors® coffee mug.

Thank you for being a member of our pack!

THERE …..

On February 10, 2022, a U.S District Court Judge ruled in favor of the organizations that sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to restore gray wolf Endangered Species Act (ESA) protection in 44 states. Judge Jeffrey White wrote that the USFWS had "failed to adequately analyze and consider the impacts of delisting this species."

It didn't hurt that just three days prior to the judge's ruling, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, the first Native American holding this position, published an essay in USA Today "mourning the current state of the gray wolf species."

And for the other three states in the Northern Rockies where wolves still need protection, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, (wolves in New Mexico never lost ESA protection), the USFWS has taken re-listing those wolves under serious consideration and will hopefully decide soon in the wolves favor. We will not stop letting them know what moral, ethical, and ecologically sound decision they must make. ❤
